GSM - A MAGICAL COMBINATION

Our 2021 Portrait of a Mutt Red Blend is made up of three grapes - Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.  This magical combination of grapes originates from the Southern Rhone region in France; it is also a mainstay in Australia where the Aussies call it "GSM".  What is so special about these three grapes is how they play off of each other.  Grenache provides lush berry fruit and a soft palate; Syrah contributes red and black fruits, smoke, bacon and pepper spice; and Mourvèdre provides the backbone of dark fruit, meaty flavors and tannins.   Combined they produce a full flavored, robust red wine that we love to drink.

It’s all about the fruit.  For her “Dog Series” wines, Brenda has one goal in mind - create fruit-forward wines with varietally true aromatics, midpalate weight and flavor, and a full bodied and balanced finish.   Brenda sources her fruit from a variety of appellations within California always letting the quality of the fruit drive her selections. Her travels always seem to have stops in beach towns for a cold beer at the local pub, which she claims are an equally important part of her winemaking.
